Golden San Francisco

Following on from Los Angeles (after we had late night ice cream, which made me sick right the next day :(), we took the a flight from LAX to SFO. First thoughts about San Fran were that it seemed to have had a lot of colour, it appeared old as we were passing through towns on the train. But once we were in Fisherman Wharf it was so different, there were more high rise building, but still had the water and trees. I loved it! We stayed at the Hyatt Regency for AUD$429 for 2 people. See we thought it was worth it given the location, but San Fran is abit compacted and it's very easy to get from one place to the other. We ended up walking to most of the places. Ah i didn't get to ride on those cable cars! haha. I was so sick in San Fran and it didnt help that this place had the sea breeze blowing all the time.

First day, we decided to be lazy and just walked to Union Square and watched 'Avatar -The Last Airbender' in Extreme-D. Lol, what a waste of time!! I fell asleep towards the end, it could be a result of the meds i was on, but still, the movie was way too long! And this is coming from a fan of the Avatar Series.

I got so excited when I saw a Victoria's Secret store, we dont have these in Melbourne or any place in Australia!! I spent a (little) mulla there!

Day 2 in San Fran, still sick, but soldiered on. Was forced to buy a proper 'san fransisco' jumper (that everyone was wearing!) We walked all the way to Lombard St (the worlds crookedest street) man is this street so beautiful and picturesque! So so pretty.

The rest of the day had us booked into an Alkatraz Tour (which only cost me US$26), we were ferried off to the island, and given head sets that led us through the island with narrations on the history of the place. I did get bored listening to this. Im sorry, but prison history never fascinated me. I would have been more intrigued if they had focused on the ghost stories, but nah they just told us about different areas of the prison, and mentioned a few famous names...meh.  Plus it was pretty gross seeing the facilities that the prisoners had, yep this was my first time in a prison. So noobie speaking here :P We only spent about 2 hours on the island before we took the ferry back to the mainland, we were walking around trying to find Coit Tower, we could see it peering above everything else, haha and we thought we could locate it without a map. Mistake! We took some sidestreets and somehow did manage to find it, but man was it a total workout!
Since we still hadnt been to the Golden Gate Bridge, the main attraction of San Fran and it was already Day 3, and we had a flight at 7pm flight to catch. It was a really nice, sunny Saturday (thank god, cos i was still sick) that day, we hired some bikes from Fishermans Wharf, they directed us towards the Bridge (pretty useless instructions, have to say) we ended up just following the trail of cyclists all heading towards the bridge. I truly recommend doing this, it's just that feeling of freedom, everything just seems easy (until you crash into something...haha but still..). I cycled around Angkor Wat last Decemeber, and that was amazing too! Maybe i should just cycle when i go on holiday!

We cycled to the other side of the bridge, and then just cycled back, it was so cold though, but yet so hot cos we'd been cycling for a few hours by that stage. What a workout! By this time it was around 4pm and we had to be on a train at 4.30pm. We check out and rush to the train, which thank god arrived on queue and we were off to the Airport. Aww bye bye San Francisco. I will be back :)

"I left my heart in San Fracisco,
High on a hill, it calls to me
To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars
The morning fog may chill the air, I don't care

Ny love waits there in San Francisco
Above the blue and windy sea
When I come home to you, San Francisco
You golden sun will shine for me"
